Using the Grid to Find and Edit Material

The grid is your universal tool for finding and manipulating the items in the KeyControl GUI. For example, look at the screen shot below, where the Cloud Navigation icon has been selected:

We selected the Amazon AWS VM set, and the details immediately appeared in the edit window below. At this point, we can edit any aspect of the VM set in that window. All changes take effect immediately.

Searching in the Grid

The blank line at the top of each column in the grid is our search window, as highlighted below. Type as little as a single letter, and the database scrolls to the records that begin with that letter. You can then check each record that you want to examine more closely and make any needed changes. In the example below, we typed the letter “v” in the Description field. Three out of four records matched, and show. We can now select and edit whichever one we want. Any changes we make are automatically saved.

Using Wildcards to Search

You can also search not only the first letter, but within each field, using wildcard truncation. The asterisk (*) can be used to truncate at both the beginning and the end of a field. Look at the example below, where we searched for *air*.
