Configuring the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance

The following procedure describes how to configure the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance after it has been deployed by vSphere. This procedure requires access to the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance Console on the CloudAdvisor VM. After you have completed this procedure, you can use the HyTrust CloudAdvisor graphical user interface (GUI) to complete the configuration process and add VMs to your CloudAdvisor inventory.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have completed the Pre-Installation Checklist.

Procedure

  1. From the vSphere VMware client, right-click the VM on which CloudAdvisor is deployed and select Open Console.

Alternatively, select the VM from the list of VMs and click Launch Virtual Machine Console in the vCenter Client toolbar.

  2. In the Console window, log into the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance using the following credentials:

  3. Specify a hostname for the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance and press Enter.

The hostname can contain up to 15 alphanumeric characters or hyphens (-).

  4. Specify a new password for the admin account.

The password must meet the criteria described in the Console prompt.

  5. Re-enter the password at the prompt.
  6. Specify the Primary interface IP address and press Enter.

The Primary interface is required and needs to be available on an externally-routable network. CloudAdvisor always uses this interface for management functions such as License Activation and Vitals reporting. Other external services such as Active Directory queries, Network Time Protocol (NTP), and Domain Name Service (DNS) queries may also use this interface if no Secondary network is configured.

  7. Specify the Netmask for the Primary IP address and press Enter.
  8. Specify the Gateway IP address for the Default IP address and press Enter.
  9. If desired, specify the DNS server IP address and press Enter.
  10. If you entered a DNS server in the previous step, specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for that DNS server and press Enter.
  11. If you want to configure a Secondary network interface that CloudAdvisor should use for data traffic, type y and press Enter at the prompt. Otherwise, type N and press Enter.

The Secondary interface can be a private, non-routable network such as a Virtualization Manager (vCenter) or a Backup Provider such as Veeam. This interface must be on a different subnet than the Default interface specified above. If you define a Secondary interface, CloudAdvisor selects between the Default and Secondary interfaces based on standard routing rules.

You can also specify a Secondary interface using the HyTrust CloudAdvisor graphical user interface (GUI) after the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance has been configured.

  12. If you specified y in step 11, enter the IP address and netmask for the Secondary interface at the prompts.
  13. After you have finished specifying the configuration settings, the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance Console displays a summary of the settings you have entered. Review the settings and type y and press Enter to have CloudAdvisor apply those settings.

When the configuration has finished, CloudAdvisor displays a confirmation message stating that the configuration has completed successfully.

What to Do Next

The rest of the configuration process is done through the HyTrust CloudAdvisor graphical user interface (GUI) as described in Setting Up CloudAdvisor.

Note: If you want to change any of the configuration settings before you complete the configuation in the CloudAdvisor interface, log back into the VM as admin using the password you specified in the procedure above, then select Modify from the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance Console menu and follow the prompts. After you complete the steps in Setting Up CloudAdvisor, this option is no longer available and all changes must be made from the CloudAdvisor interface.
