Setting Up CloudAdvisor

The final configuration steps are done by accessing the HyTrust CloudAdvisor graphical user interface (GUI) through any supported web browser. For more information, see Supported Browsers.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the IP address assigned to the Primary interface during the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance configuration.

Note: CloudAdvisor uses a self-signed certificate. Depending on your browser, you may receive a message about a problem with the certificate or the connection being untrusted or not private. Simply click past the message.
  2. Log into CloudAdvisor with the username admin and the password that was specified when the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance was configured.

The first time you log into the CloudAdvisor interface, CloudAdvisor automatically displays a splash screen that lets you start the Configuration Wizard.

  3. In the Welcome to CloudAdvisor splash screen, click Setup Now.
  4. Accept the HyTrust Software End User License Agreement (EULA).
  5. Specify the following properties in the Register step:

    Field Name Description
    Allow Vitals communication

Check box that enables the CloudAdvisor Vitals service. The Vitals service enables CloudAdvisor to gather information from your system and monitor the health of the system. HyTrust Support may request this information when answering a Support question.

For more information, see the HyTrust CloudAdvisor Administration Guide or the CloudAdvisor Online Help.

    CloudAdvisor Licensing

Select one of the following license options:

    • Activation Key (requires internet connectivity) - Specify the activation key in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
    • Import License - Click Browse to select a license file to import.
    • Enter License - Copy and paste all text from a valid CloudAdvisor license starting with the word "license" into the text box.
  6. Click Activate.

CloudAdvisor verifies that your license is valid and displays a confirmation.

  7. Verify the specified information and click Continue with Setup.
  8. Specify the following properties in the DNS configuration window:

    Field Name Description
    DNS IP Address

IP address of the DNS server. To specify multiple DNS servers, separate their IP addresses with spaces.

You must specify the IP address of at least one DNS server.

Note: If you entered a DNS Server IP address during initial setup of the CloudAdvisor Virtual Appliance, this field is pre-populated with the IP address.
    Domain Name

Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for CloudAdvisor.

  9. If you want to verify the connection, click Test.
  10. Click Continue.
  11. Specify the following properties in the Date & Time configuration window:

    Field Name Description
    Time Zone

Select a time zone by clicking on the map or by selecting it in the drop-down list.

    NTP Servers

Enter an IP address or fully-qualified domain name of a time server. To specify multiple NTP servers, separate their IP addresses or domain names with spaces.

Domain names cannot include spaces or these special characters:

    ,~:!@#$%^&’()[]{}

    Example: ca.pool.ntp.org <space> us.pool.ntp.org

  12. To verify the configuration, click Test.
  13. Click Continue.
  14. If you want to connect CloudAdvisor to an Active Directory (AD) server:

    1. Ensure that Active Directory is set to ON (the default).

Note: If you want to add any Veeam-managed VMs to the CloudAdvisor inventory, you must connect using an AD account. Because CloudAdvisor for Availability only supports Veeam-managed VMs, AD is required if you are using CloudAdvisor for Availability. AD is optional for CloudAdvisor for Data.
    2. Enter the AD Domain Name. CloudAdvisor does not support multiple AD domains.
    3. CloudAdvisor derives the default NetBIOS domain name from the specified AD Domain name. Verify the entry in the NetBIOS Domain Name field and make changes if necessary.
  15. Click Continue.
  16. If you want to connect CloudAdvisor to an email server:

    1. Set the Email service to ON.

We strongly recommend that you configure an email server so that CloudAdvisor can send email alerts, event notifications, and search subscriptions.
