Analyzing File Categories Over Time

The File Categories over Time view shows the number of files, grouped in predefined categories, that have been added or modified on the VM over time

When you first open the File Categories over Time view, the window displays two identical graphs. The top graph is the adjustable graph; the bottom graph is the target graph. The adjustable graph enables you to modify what you see in the target graph by using range bars.

To use the adjustable graph range bars:

Hover over the adjustable graph with your cursor.

A crosshair symbol replaces your normal cursor.
Click and drag the crosshair symbol over the portion of the adjustable graph you want to view in the target graph.

Range bars appear on either side of the selected viewing area. When using the range bars, keep the following in mind:
- You can increase or decrease the size of the viewing area by clicking and dragging either range bar.
- You can slide the entire viewing area along the timeline (X-axis) of the adjustable graph by clicking between the range bars and dragging the viewing area to the desired location on the timeline.
- To close the adjustable view and return to the default view, click outside of the viewing area.

Content		Description
File category legend		List of file type categories flagged in the CloudAdvisor data. File type categories appear in order of greatest to smallest number of files in the category, from left to right in the tile; the category with the greatest number of files appears first in the list, followed by the second greatest number, and so on. The legend can list the following file types: Audio – Files using audio formats (for example, mp3, AAC, or wav). Compressed – Files in compressed format (for example, zip, tgz, rar, or jar) Database – Files used by Microsoft (MS) Access and other databases Directory – File directories Document – Files using a document format (for example, text, XML, MS Word, or Wordstar) Image – Files using image formats (for example, gif, jpg, or png) Presentation – Files using a presentation format (for example, Apple Pages or MS Powerpoint) System – Files typically used in operating systems (for example, MS Windows DLL files) Video – Files using video formats (for example, mp2, mov, or mpeg) Other – Files not recognized as part of any other category Note: For space reasons, not all detected file formats are listed.
Y-axis: Files		Number of files found in each category.
X-axis: Date		Date range over which the file categories are viewed.
Matches Found		Total number of files found in the selected date range and for the selected file categories.
Sort By menu		Drop-down menu that enables you to sort the search results by relevance, time, or size.
Export menu		Drop-down menu that enables you to export search results.
File list		List of files found in the selected date range and for the selected file categories.

File Information

Contents	Description
File name	Name of the file.
File size	Size of the file (in Kilobytes [KB] or Gigabytes [GB]).
File path	Directory path to the file.
Owned by	Name of the user who owns the file.
Last Modified	Date and time on which the file was last modified. The date and time are provided in mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss format.
Discovered Time	Date and time at which the file was first seen.
Identified Tags	CloudAdvisor predefined tags, or any custom tags, that you have assigned to the associated Insight Profile.
File Details icon	Displays system and file properties as well as tag stored matches and a summary of the file's contents. For more information, see Viewing File Details.
Download icon	Launches a download of the file to the local system. Only files with a snapshot can be downloaded.
Restore icon	Launches a restore action on the file. Only files with a snapshot can be restored.
