Setting Up the Email Service

CloudAdvisor uses SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to send and receive mail. Email configuration is required for CloudAdvisor email alerts, event notifications, and search subscriptions.

We strongly recommend that you configure an email server.

To configure the email service:

  1. Set the Email service to ON.

  2. Specify values for each field using the definitions in the following table:

    Field Name Range Description
    SMTP Server Name or IP Address 2 — 255 ASCII characters

    Name of the SMTP server used by email or its IP address.

    Cannot include spaces or the following special characters:

    , ~ : ! @ # $ % ^ & ’ ( ) [ ] { }

    Security N/A

    Encryption method for establishing a connection with the SMTP server:

    • None (default)
    • SSL-Secure Sockets Layer
    • TLS-Transport Layer Security
    User Name 1 — 255 ASCII characters

    User name for the account authorized to send email.

    Optional if security is "None."

    Cannot include spaces.

    Password 2 — 32 ASCII characters

    Password for the user that is authorized to send email.

    Optional if security is "None."

    Cannot include spaces.

    Re-enter Password 2 — 32 ASCII characters

    Password for the user that is authorized to send email.

    Optional if security is "None."

    Cannot include spaces.

    Port 1 — 6 digits

    TCP Port that the SMTP server uses for communications.

    Default is TCP port 25 for no security. Use TCP ports 465 or 587 for SSL or TLS.

    Sender 1 — 255 ASCII characters

    Email address from which the system sends email.

    Cannot include spaces.

  3. If you want to verify the configuration, click Test, enter the recipient email address at the prompt, then click Send Test Email.
  4. Click Continue.

  5. Proceed to Adding Virtualization Managers.
