Upgrading 4.1 or later Policy Agents with the KeyControl webGUI

If the version of the Policy Agent installed on the VM is version 4.1 or later, you can upgrade it using the KeyControl webGUI. In order to complete the upgrade, the VM must be rebooted. You can either have this happen automatically during the upgrade procedure or you can tell KeyControl that you want to reboot the VM manually. After you submit the upgrade request, the actual upgrade process will being the next time that VM heartbeats with KeyControl.

For older Policy Agents or other upgrade options, see Upgrading the Policy Agent on Linux and Upgrading the Policy Agent on Windows.

  1. Log into the KeyControl webGUI using an account with Cloud Admin privileges.
  2. In the top menu bar, click Cloud.
  3. Select the VM whose Policy Agent you want to upgrade and click the Expand button (>) at the end of the row.
  4. If the webGUI displays a message stating that an updated agent version is available, select Actions > Upgrade Agent from the main Actions menu.
  5. Confirm that you want to upgrade the Policy Agent at the prompt.
  6. If you want to have the Policy Agent automatically reboot the VM after the upgrade, click Yes. If you want to manually reboot the VM later to finish the upgrade, click No.

KeyControl creates an upgrade task that it communicates to the VM at the VM's next heartbeat. You can view the status of this task on the Dashboard in the Tasks tile. If you want the upgrade to begin immediately, log into the VM as an administrator and use the hcl heartbeat command.

  7. If you selected No when prompted about automatic reboot, wait until the upgrade task has completed and then reboot the VM to finish the Policy Agent upgrade. The webGUI will continue to display the informational message stating that an updated Policy Agent is available in the VM Details area until the VM is rebooted.
