Upgrading to a New Hardware Signature Format

To ensure security, KeyControl Vault periodically upgrades the hardware signature format. When you upgrade your Policy Agent, you may see an alert message similar to "VM is using an older Hardware Signature format. Please run “hcl auth” cmd on the VM for a more secure signature".

This means that the hardware signature format on the policy agent has been updated. In order to use the new hardware signature format, you will need to reauthorize your client by running the hcl auth -a command inside Windows or Linux after the system is fully booted.

Note: If you run the hcl auth command without the -a option, the encrypted disks will be detached during the reauthorization process.

Important: Although upgrading the hardware signature is optional, we highly recommend that you run the command when you see this alert.
