Deploying CloudControl

The following procedure describes how to deploy the CloudControl virtual appliance to a VMware vSphere cluster.

Note: The procedure uses the VMware vSphere client version 6.0.x. If you are using a different version of vSphere, the procedure may be different. If you have any questions, consult your vSphere documentation.

  1. Log into the vSphere cluster using the VMware vSphere client or the vSphere Web Client.

  2. Navigate to Inventories > Hosts and Clusters.
  3. In the Navigator Pane, select the resource pool where you plan to deploy CloudControl.
  4. Select File > Deploy OVF Template from vSphere Client, or Actions > Deploy OVF Template from vSphere Web Client.

    Note: In this context, OVF and OVA are synonymous.

  5. On the Select an OVF Template page, enter the URL of the CloudControl OVA file and click Next.

    Alternatively, you can select Local File and choose the template and all files associated with it.

  6. On the Select a name and folder page, update the name, if necessary, and select the location where you want to deploy CloudControl and click Next.
  7. On the Select a compute resource page, select the destination compute resource and click Next.
  8. On the Review Details page, verify the details and click Next.
  9. On the License agreements page, check the I accept all license agreements checkbox and click Next.
  10. On the Select storage page, choose the virtual disk format, select the destination storage for the virtual machine files, and click Next.

    Alternatively, you can check the Disable Storage DRS for this virtual machine checkbox and select a datastore.

  11. On the Select networks page, choose the destination network that you want to use for the NIC, and then click Next.

    Note: Ensure that the primary NIC is set to the network used to access the CloudControl Management Console.

  12. On the Customize template page, complete the following and click Next.

    Field Description
    Host IP address Enter the valid unused IP address that you want to use for the CloudControl IP address.
    Hostname

    Enter the hostname to use for CloudControl.

    Domain Name

    The domain name for CloudControl.

    Netmask

    Enter the netmask that is appropriate for your subnet.

    Gateway

    Enter the IP address of your network gateway server.

    DNS servers

    Enter the IP address of a DNS server at your site.

    You must have at least one DNS server. Up to three DNS server addresses are supported.

    Accept the default values or enter the IP address or FQDN of the NTP servers that you want to use. When

  14. Click Finish to close the installation wizard.

    The vSphere Client starts the deployment process on the vCenter Server resource. You can monitor the progress in the vSphere Client Status panel.
