Creating a Multi-Site Cluster
A multi-site cluster requires that you create two VIPs. During a failover event, the VIP will also change.
Note: In order to configure the multi-site cluster, the node IP address of both the primary and secondary nodes must be able to communicate. You can do this by configuring routes on both the sites to let the node IPs communicate with each other to join the cluster and to sync data between the nodes.
- Create a primary node with a VIP. See Creating the Primary Node of a Cluster.
-
Create the secondary node using the same VIP and htadmin password as the primary.
-
Review the network configuration, and update the virtual hostname and VIP for the second site.
Field Description Host IP address Enter the valid unused IP address that you want to use for the CloudControl IP address. Hostname Enter the hostname to use for CloudControl.
Virtual Hostname Enter the virtual hostname to associate with the Virtual IP address (VIP) of the second site.
The virtual hostname is a virtual name that is mapped to the virtual IP address in the /etc/hosts file. You can use the server name and domain name to access the primary CloudControl in addition to the VIP.
The hostname can be a maximum of 63 alphanumeric characters and contain one dash [-].
Virtual IP address Enter the virtual management IP address (VIP) of the second site.
For a multi-site configuration, the VIP will change when your secondary site becomes active. The IP that you specify should be a valid unused IP address in your subnet.
Domain Name The domain name for CloudControl.
Netmask
Enter the netmask that is appropriate for your subnet.
Gateway
Enter the IP address of your network gateway server.
DNS servers Enter the IP address of a DNS server at your site.
You must have at least one DNS server. Up to three DNS server addresses are supported.
NTP server list Optionally enter the IP address or FQDN of the NTP servers.
Static Routes
Optionally add a static route using the following format: <IP_Address>/<Netmask>:<Gateway>
To enter more than one static route, use comma-separated values.
-
Review your choices and select OK, or select No to modify your choices.
When the configuration has finished, CloudControl displays a confirmation message stating that the configuration has completed successfully.
