Dual-Site High Availability Planning

For dual-site configuration, decide which of the following two approaches will be used for the various fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) in DNS after a failover:

  • FQDNs are distinct for each site. No DNS address record updates are needed after failover, but you must use the FQDN matching the site that’s currently primary.
  • FQDNs are shared between sites. Their DNS address records must be updated in DNS after failover, but you can continue using the same FQDN regardless of which site is primary.

Note: You can configure multiple vCenters or ESXi hosts to be protected as part of this HA cluster. You will need the PIP and FQDN for each vCenter or ESXi.
