Linking CloudAdvisor with CloudControl

If you have a HyTrust CloudControl instance already configured, you can link CloudAdvisor with CloudControl so that you can add labels to the VMs registered with CloudControl.

If you have multiple CloudControl instances, you need to create a separate link between CloudAdvisor and each one of the CloudControl instances.

Before You Begin 

• Make sure you know the hostname or IP address of one or more HyTrust CloudControl servers to which you want to connect. The CloudControl servers must be running CloudControl version 5.3.1 or later.

• If you want CloudAdvisor to verify the CloudControl certificate every time it connects to CloudControl, make sure that the SSL certificate installed in CloudControl includes the entire certificate chain, starting from the root CA certificate. When SSL Verify is enabled, CloudAdvisor expects the entire CloudControl certificate chain when it communicates with CloudControl.

• Establishing the connection between CloudAdvisor and CloudControl requires a one-time App Link code generated by a CloudControl user with AppLink Management privileges. This one-time code is valid for 10 minutes after it is generated. If you do not know the credentials for a CloudControl account with this privilege level, make sure that you can get the code from your CloudControl administrator and enter it into CloudAdvisor within that time.

Procedure 

1. Generate the one-time App Link code in CloudControl.

   Details

   1. Log into CloudControl using an account with AppLink Management privileges.
   2. Select Configuration > App Links.
   3. On the One Time Code tab in the Select Role for App Link drop-down, select ASC_HTCAAdmin.
   4. When you are ready to transfer the code to CloudAdvisor, click Submit.
   5. Copy the one-time code displayed in the Code field.

2. Log into the CloudAdvisor interface.

3. From the Home tab, select System > System Settings.
4. From the System Management tab, select Settings > App Links.
5. On the App Links page, click the + (Add) button.

6. In the Create App Link dialog box, specify the options you want to use.

   Options

   Field	Description
   Name	A user-defined name for the app link.
   Description	A user-defined description for the app link.
   Server	The hostname or IP address for the CloudControl server. When connecting to the server, CloudAdvisor automatically prepends HTTPS:// to this field. If you have a VIP configured for CloudControl, enter the VIP address in this field. Otherwise, enter the Primary node address in this field.
   Server Type	Select HyTrust CloudControl.
   SSL Verify	If this option is enabled, the certificate for the CloudControl server is verified every time a connection between CloudAdvisor and CloudControl is established. If the CloudAdvisor certificate changes, the connection will fail. This is the default. If this option is not enabled, the CloudControl server certificate is never verified by CloudAdvisor. Important: If you enable this option, CloudAdvisor expects the entire certificate chain from CloudControl when it connects. Make sure that the SSL certificate installed in CloudControl includes the entire certificate chain, starting from the root CA certificate.
   One Time Code	The App Link code generated in CloudControl.

7. When you are finished, click Create.
8. If the connection information is correct and you have enabled the SSL Verify option, CloudAdvisor displays the CloudControl certificate. Verify that the certificate is correct and that it is linked to the expected server. If it is correct, click Yes.

9. If desired, repeat this procedure to link CloudAdvisor to another CloudControl server.
