Adding a Backup Provider

Before You Begin

Make sure you know the login credentials for a backup provider user account. The account must have administrator privileges.

To add a backup provider:

  1. From the Home tab, select Inventory > Backup Providers.
  2. Select Actions > Add Backup Provider.
  3. Specify the following properties:

    Field Name Description
Server Name or IP Address Name or IP address of the backup server you are adding.
User Name User name credentials for this system.
Password Password credentials for this system.
  4. Click Continue.

  5. Click Add to Inventory.

CloudAdvisor verifies connectivity and discovers details about the system.

  6. Click Continue.
  7. On the Analysis Blackout Window page, select the time periods during which you do not want CloudAdvisor to process DiscoveryPoints on the backups on this system. Using a blackout window ensures that CloudAdvisor will not attempt to mount or read the backups during peak usage hours.

  8. Click Continue.
  9. On the Select VMs page, select the VMs that you want CloudAdvisor to analyze. You can use the search fields at the bottom of each column to filter the list.
  10. When you are done, click Continue.
  11. If you want to use a specific Insight Profile for one or more VMs, select them and click Update Insight Profile, then select the profile you want to use. For details, see Creating an Insight Profile.
  12. When you are done, click Continue.
  13. By default, CloudAdvisor analyzes the most current backup and all backups going forward. If you want to change this for any of the VMs, select those VMs and then click Update Policy. Enter the desired time range in the Backup Discovery Policy dialog box and click Apply.
  14. When you are done, click Continue.
  15. If you want to install CloudAdvisor Discovery Tools on any of the selected VMs, click the Install Now link in the Discovery Tools column and follow the prompts. For details, see Managing CloudAdvisor Discovery Tools.
  16. When you are done, click Continue.

CloudAdvisor adds the VMs to inventory and creates a snapshot view of each.
