File Count by Category Tile

The File Count by Category tile provides a summary of the number of files categorized by file type.

Category Legend

List of file type categories CloudAdvisor flagged in the data. File type categories appear in order of greatest to smallest number of files in the category, from left to right in the tile; the category with the greatest number of files appears first in the list, followed by the second greatest number, and so on. The legend can list the following file types:

  • Audio – Files using audio formats (for example, mp3, AAC, or wav)
  • Compressed – Files in compressed format (for example, zip, tgz, rar, or jar)
  • Database – Files used by Microsoft (MS) Access and other databases
  • Directory – File directories
  • Document – Files using a document format (for example, text, XML, MS Word, or Wordstar)
  • Image – Files using image formats (for example, gif, jpg, or png)
  • Presentation – Files using a presentation format (for example, Apple Pages or MS Powerpoint)
  • Spreadsheet – Files using a spreadsheet format (for example, MS Excel, Lotus 123, LibreOffice Calc, or OpenOffice Calc)
  • System – Files typically used in operating systems (for example, MS Windows DLL files)
  • Video – Files using video formats (for example, mp2, mov, or mpeg)
  • Other – Files not recognized as part of any other category

Note: For space reasons, not all detected file formats are listed.

Doughnut chart Graphical representation of the number of files in a category relative to other categories provided in the tile. Larger category areas on the count circle represent more files; smaller areas represent proportionately fewer files.

Tile Actions and Behaviors

Action Behavior
Click a category in the legend Filters the tile output by removing (or adding) categories.
Hover over a doughnut section Provides a pop-up view of the file category with a file count for the selected section.
Click a section on the doughnut chart Opens the File Count by Category view for the selected category. For more information, see Analyzing File Count by File Category.
